Why do you charge a deposit?
In years past, Skydive Central New York did not charge an upfront, non-refundable deposit. So why the change?
Due to the growing number of people that fail to show up for their reservations, or that use false credit card information, we find ourselves in the position of requiring an upfront deposit.
Since 2011, Skydive Central New York, and its instructors, have worked very hard to provide the safest, most professional, and high-quality environment for your skydiving experience; and as our reviews and safety record will tell you, we have done that well.
However, as a very small, very seasonal business here in central NY, we must make the most of the very short season we have in which to provide that professional experience.
Missed reservations are problematic for several reasons:
1) We don't overbook our time-slots. Therefore, "no-shows" and cancellations have prevented others from making a reservation to share in our experience. This is devastating to a small seasonal business.
2) Some people make multiple reservations. Whether it is to try to ensure either the best weather, or uncertainty in their schedule, the end result is again reserving time slots that others could have scheduled.
3) Lastly, our instructors love what they do, but if they are not jumping, they are not earning a living to support their families.
Some other skydive centers, both around the state and around the country, charge the entire amount upfront.
While that is their prerogative, we don't subscribe to that philosophy or prevent you from using cash on the day of your jump, if you so choose.
Therefore, in order to stay successful in a business that relies on good weather in the short season that we have, and to provide our professional experience to as many people as possible, we cannot afford to squander reservations on those that fail to show up or cancel at the last minute.
